Private lessons at Drum Chicago are fun while also placing an emphasis on the fundamentals: learning the rudiments, how to read music and learning about a wide variety of music genres. Students can begin each lesson by spinning the wheel where they can land on anything ranging from 'Drum Torture' to 'Try a New Instrument'.

Marshall Greenhouse brings over 25 years of teaching experience on drumset, hand percussion, concert percussion and music theory. He has been on staff at the Old Town School of Folk Music since 1999 and has worked with the Lincoln Elementary band program since 2002. Drum Chicago formed shortly after Marshall moved into his house in Logan Square and turned the basement of his house into a music studio.

Marshall and partner Chris Gangi have been coaching teen rock bands and running Future of Rock Camps for the past 20 years. They place an emphasis on letting the kids run their own group and teaching all aspects of the music industry from how to write original music to booking their own paying gigs.

We are also looking to run a High School session that will mix writing, jamming and field trips. Last year we had a great group who got to visit a soundcheck at Schubas, tour the Shure offices and leave with great giftbags and learned a set of music that they performed at Shoe Fest, a major music about an hour from Chicago.

I graduated from the Northwestern School of Music in 1998 and has not stopped learning ever since continually learning new instruments, rhythms and techniques. I can read charts and create my own. I love to do everything and anything music. For example, I regularly add percussion for Shabbat services at synagogues throughout the Chicago area and have a monthly gig DJing psychedelic music from around the world. I have been hired to add sound effects for a magic show and have improvised live music simultaneously with light design and dance. I lost track of how many sets of classic rock covers years back and am often asked to add dub effects with jazz and worldbeat acts.
